Coldplay on the map with “Atlas”


Chris Martins new song “Atlas” has proven a hit after its recent release on the 6th of September 2013. The song is to be the official soundtrack for the new Hollywood movie, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire which is to be released on the 11th of November 2013 in London. Jon Buckland, a guitarist; however they were soon joined by Will Champion, a drummer and Guy Berryman, a bassist. The band’s talent was not to be sneezed at, with Chris Martin playing a variety of musical instruments including the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, piano, keyboards, organ , harmonica, mandolin, trumpet, clarinet, glockenspiel and percussion.

Coldplay’s fifth and most recent album, Mylo Xyloto was released on the 19 October 2011. The album’s title, Mylo Xyloto means ‘girl’ and ‘boy’ and has links to the artwork of the cover, which was created by the British street graffiti artist, Paris. The lyrics of the 44.09 minute album were inspired by the ‘White Rose Movement’ of the 1970s and of the ‘old school American graffiti’. With the first hit single of the album “Paradise” being released a few weeks prior to the album on the 12th of September 2011, the response ensured the albums success, with 231,944,865 YouTube views to date. Upon Mylo Xyloto’s release, the album shot to the top of the carts in 34 different countries. The album has sold over 8 million copies worldwide, with a number of its hit singles receiving awards, such as “Paradise” which not only sold 410, 000 copies, it also won the award for Best Rock Video at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

Mylo Xyloto also features celebrity singer, Rihanna in the single Princess of China. The band also performed Mylo Xyloto lyrics at the Apple Incorporated memorial event for Steve Jobs, as well as receiving Grammy Award Nominations for a number of their songs at the 54th awards ceremony.
