Drake started off as a local Canadian artist trying to break into the hip hop/RnB music scene of America. After releasing his first successful single Best I ever had and signing up with Young Money Productions he released hisdebut Album Thank me later. Thank me later gave him his big break and revealed Drake the artist but his following album Take Carerevealed Aubrey Drake Graham.
When take care was released on the 15th of November 2011 the 26 year old Canadian confessed to GQ magazine ‘I’m going to make this a moment for myself’. This album was very personal to him, it was his way of thanking his fans by opening himself up to them in the form of his latest album Take Care.
Drake has really grown into an artist of individuality in Take Care. Drake collaborates with well-known artists in this album, artists such as Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj even Stevie Wonder feature in the album. This album reached out to a broader spectrum of music lovers, in other words there is something for everyone to enjoy. This album takes people on a roller-coaster ride of emotions, he himself felt as an artist and as a person. Drake paints a picture of love, hate, jealousy, anger and fun. He even went so far as to redo his Bar Mitzvah in one of his music videos of Take Care.
He gives recognition to people who play an influential role in his life, in his one song ‘Crew Love’ he acknowledges his family and friends and the role they play in his life ‘I guess we’ll never know what Harvard gets us but seeing my family have it all took the place of that desire for diplomas on the wall and really, I think I like who I’m becoming’.
His range is really portrayed in this album; from love songs such as take care to upbeat songs such as The Motto Drake has gone out of his way to make sure this album is a success. Drake reaped the reward of his album when it debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 in the first week of the album’s release.
