Miguel Jontel Pimentel, (born October 23, 1986), who performs under the mononym Miguel, is an American recording artist, songwriter and producer. He signed to Jive Records in 2007, Miguel’s first album went by the name of, ‘All I Want Is You,’ in November 2010. Certain songs were a success on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, reaching number seven. However, the album did not benefit from this success, debuting at 109 on the Billboard 200. His next single ‘Sure Thing’ was a worldwide success, sitting at number one on the R&B chart.
His second studio album, Kaleidoscope Dream, was released on October 2, 2012. The album released into three parts and began with the first EP Kaleidoscope Dream: The Water Preview which was released on July 31, 2012. It included the lead single ‘Adorn’ which had became Miguel’s second number one hit on the US Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It is the song that is making every girl go crazy, you hear this song and the album blasting in residences and gigs. His second album was more of a success featuring songs such as ‘Pay Me,’ that were an instant club hit.
Although his first album did not give him the publicity he needed through his second album Miguel was able to make a name for himself in the industry. Through this recognition Miguel has featured on many major recording artists’ tracks as the voice that keeps the women listening, for example he has featured on Wale’s hit song ‘Lotus Flower Bomb,’ as well as on Jay Z and Kanye West’s album ‘Watch the Throne.’
As a writer Miguel has written songs for artists such as Usher and Trey Songs so it comes as no surprise when he writes such amazing lyrics for his own albums. Miguel identifies himself as part of the new wave of R&B artists that include Frank Ocean, the Weekend, and Elle Varner. Miguel incorporates R&B, funk, hip hop, rock and electronic styles into his music. Miguel described his sound as “nostalgic in a sense that it’s familiar. It’s shocking, edgy, energizing. From his second album he has won awards such as Best New Artist and Best Song of the Year at the Grammy and Bet awards.
Miguel has a very bright future in the music industry and needs to constantly work hard to keep his name relevant in the music industry and he has much room for improvement. All in all however he is worth a listen.Sure Thing Video
