Lucky Dube[1] was born on 03 August 1964 in Ermelo, former of Eastern
Transvaal now known as Mpumalanga. He started to his music in 1979 and
he was singing ?Mbaqanga? then in 1985 he recorded his first
reggae album known as Reggae Never Die and it was the first reggae
album to be recorded in South Africa. This album was prohibited
immediately because of political issues in the government that was
controlling the media by that time. So this album achieved the
awareness but it wasn?t sold well.

In 1989 he released his fifth album called PRISONER[2]. This album had
hit double platinum within 5 days. He performed this album mainly in
African places from small townships to bigger places such as Ellis
Park where the crowd was estimated to 80000 people.

He also performed it in United States where he made a historical
outward show at the world famous reggae Sunsplash Festival in Jamaica.
That was the first time for South African artist to rock up in the
Sunsplash Festival. His dream was realised through this album.

He was the first and only artist to be invited back for a 25 minutes
encore. The PRISONER was Dube?s biggest sold album he sold 1 000000
copies worldwide. He also released a live album video for this album
and he also featured some of his best known songs in that video.

The live album of the Prisoner promptly arrives at the platinum status
and it was outsold internationally. He won the best male vocalist of
the year through that album at the annual OKTV awards here in South
Africa.

This album consists of 8 songs; War and Crime, Prisoner, False
Prophets, Remember Me, Jah Live, Dracula and Reggae Don’t Cry

One of his songs the prisoner is about a little who dropout from
school and he little became a criminal but he ends up in prison. While
he was told by a teacher that crime does not pay[3] and education is
the key but as the little boy, he thought he knows what he was doing.

In his music he pass the massage to the South Africans and worldwide
but his concerned with women and children. This album is about the
truth and justice in the world. He suggests through this album that
things must not be the way they are.
